A majority of Indians start their day with a cup of hot chai every morning. Chai is less of a beverage and more of an emotion in India. Many friendships start over a cup of chai and you can have endless conversations with it. Here are eight Indian teas and their health benefits.

Masala chai: One of the most famous beverages in India, masala chai is made with several Indian spices like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, etc. This chai has several health benefits like building the immune system, aiding digestion and boosting immunity.

Darjeeling tea: There are different varieties of Darjeeling tea - white, black, green, and oolong. All these teas helps to prevent gastric ulcers and obesity.

Noon chai: Also known as Kashmiri tea, this chai is usually made in a traditional container called the Samovar. Noon chai is also served in many parts of Rajasthan and Nepal. This chai is known to prevent heartburn and bloating.

Irani chai: This creamy chai is famous in Pune and Hyderabad. It is different from any other Indian chais since they add mawa or khoya to black tea. Irani chai helps improve heart and oral health.

Butter tea: Also known as Gur Gur Chai, this tea is popular in Ladakh and Sikkim. It is traditionally made from tea leaves, yak milk butter, water, and salt. Butter tea helps aid digestion, improve heart health and cognitive function.

Nilgiri tea: Also known as blue mountain tea, Nilgiri tea is famous worldwide for its aromatic flavour. It helps reduce weight, improve oral health and fight diabetes. 

Assam tea: This northeastern state is famous for their tea gardens and variety of teas. Assam tea, as the name suggests, is a black tea that is known for its body, briskness, malty flavour, and strong, bright colour. Assam tea is rich in antioxidants and may improve gut health. It may also help reduce blood pressure and the risk of stroke.
